Smashwords inks deal with Amazon.com

Well, now my eBooks will be distributed through Barnes and Noble (Nook), Amazon.com (Kindle), Sony eBook Store (Sony Readers), Shortcovers and Smashwords (Wide variety of Mobile devices in 140 countries). That’s all there is for now…we’ll see who else signs on tomorrow. Read the press release here.

They call it the democratizing of the distribution process. We’ll see. The interesting developments will involve pricing. If they’re smart, distributors will just keep taking half of whatever an eBook sells for, and not worry about old world over-pricing. (It’s free money for them, anyway.)

Smashwords inked a deal with Shortcovers that opened up a GLOBAL mobile market for Bent Steeple and other titles at GWellsTaylor.com.

Smashwords.com already distributes eBooks by Indie authors and publishers through the Sony eBook Store and Barnes and Noble.com. Shortcovers distributes to eBook Readers, laptop and computer readers as well as the larger and growing mobile reader market.

I’ve already got Bent Steeple up there. Had to charge a little more than my direct price because they’re a retailer and want something in the exchange. I still kept it to $3.99 per eBook, which is fair enough, considering the wider reach these distributors offer. Kind of lucky I paused before uploading the rest of the eBooks because there has since been a tripling of uploads to Smashwords and a lot of technical glitches due to improperly formatted eBooks. They’ve since ironed things out, so I’ll be uploading in the wee hours.

You can always get the Reader-direct price of $1.99 per eBook at shop.GWellsTaylor.com. Remember, the Free Sony eBook Reader Contest continues. Enter at BentSteeple.com.

FREE SONY eBOOK READER – ALL eBOOKS $1.99

Horror author G. Wells Taylor hopes to shake things up in the exploding eBook marketplace by offering his list of full length novels for $1.99 each to celebrate the Halloween release of his new novel BENT STEEPLE.

And it isn’t just a promotion. “I’m selling content here. There’s a royalty to cover and a few expenses but we’re not paying for printing and shipping. $1.99 for an eBook is fair.” The Indie writer’s decade online laid the groundwork for creating a user-friendly web presence and platform for his Reader-direct pricing. “The old publishers wanted the status quo to continue because they had all the money and control, but the ‘status quo’ didn’t feed many writers.”

He describes his horror novel as a disturbing tale that would scare the glitter off a modern vampire’s cheeks. BENT STEEPLE has teeth.

Something is in the trees. In BENT STEEPLE a blizzard isolates a remote northern village that was stricken by a fatal and unknown disease thirty years before. Some survivors believed a vampire stalked the frozen forests, but their suspicions sounded like insanity. Now their secrets have drawn them back for vengeance, salvation and for blood.

Formatting complete…now the eShop!

Tech errors delayed stocking the eShop last weekend, but we’ve got things ironed out. Doing a complete overhaul of the web site over the next ten days, too. Make sure you enter the Sony eBook Reader contest at BentSteeple.com. No purchase necessary.

eBook Formatting Continues…

After a hellish week of converting my titles to the different (most popular) eBook formats, I’m going to start stocking the eShop this weekend. All the signs suggest that the open EPUB format will be king of the hill when all the digital dust has settled, but there are still quite a few formats in use that one can’t overlook.
